WHAT IS DHI?

Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) is an advanced hair transplant technique that uses an implanter pen to extract, open the hair channel and implant hair follicles directly into the targeted recipient area one by one. At GET MORE HAIR, we use the latest technology in our DHI procedures to ensure the best possible experience for our clients.
We truly believe that the best method of DHI is to perform a ‘hybrid’ style of transplantation which utilises the benefits of both FUE and DHI procedures. Therefore, we have created the ‘MICRO-SAPPHIRE DHI’ package which we know produces the absolute best results.

WHAT IS MICRO-SAPPHIRE DHI?

MICRO SAPPHIRE DHI procedures consist of 3 fundamental stages of surgery:

  • Extractions performed with a Micro-Motor Punch
  • Opening of the hair channels with a micro sapphire tip blade
  • Re-Implantation of the hair follicles using a DHI implanter pen

Please see the video link below where Mike Smith explain the DHI hair transplant UK technique in detail including the benefits of the hybrid Micro Sapphire DHI as opposed to the classical version on DHI.

WHO CAN HAVE DHI TRANSPLANTS

Same as with the SAPPHIRE FUE method, good candidates for DHI should have healthy hair growth on the donor sites to guarantee stronger follicle growth once transplanted. Our specialists will consider the following when determining if you are a suitable candidate for a DHI procedure:

  • Aesthetic goals
  • Medical history
  • Current hair loss
  • Potential future hair loss
  • The texture and density of the hair in the donor area
  • Number of grafts needed to give you the overall results you are looking to achieve

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE DHI POCEDURE?

Following your MICRO-SAPPHIRE DHI hair transplant you will be able to return to the hotel to rest. The following day you may be required to return to the clinic for a check-up, head clean and removal of your bandages if required. The 2nd day after surgery our experienced nursing team will perform your first hair wash, demonstrating the appropriate methods and products to use to prevent damaging the follicles and enabling you to achieve the best results from the start! A YouTube video is provided to show you how to perform this yourself when you return home. You will also be provided with essential medication to take after the procedure.

We will give you detailed advice on how to approach the aftercare to ensure all of our patients have the best opportunity of achieving fantastic results. There may be some swelling which can be helped by wearing the head band for a full 72 hours from the day after surgery. You will be required to sleep with your head elevated on the neck pillow provided for the first week following the procedure, this will help protect the newly implanted follicles and also help minimise the swelling.

To give yourself (and your hair) the best opportunity to achieve an amazing result we would strongly recommend, post op that you:

  • Avoid physical activity and swimming for one month
  • Avoid alcohol and smoking as much as possible to aid your recovery
  • Protect your head from direct sunlight for the first 3 months at least
  • Take between one and two weeks off work after the procedure, depending on the amount of physical activity required of your job.

Your full result will be visible at around 10 to 12 months after the procedure. The newly implanted hair will initially fall out and being to regrow at approximately 3 months (very fine baby hair that will not grow in a uniformed fashion) The very beginning of any significant regrowth will not start to happen until around six months.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?

The MICRO-SAPPHIRE DHI procedure will usually take between five and nine hours to complete, depending on the number of grafts needed. Due to the procedure taking longer than the traditional SAPPHIRE FUE method the graft numbers are limited to a maximum 3500 in a single session. If you require a higher graft number, you will then need to consider a 2 day surgery.

IS THE DHI PROCEDURE PAINFUL?

At GET MORE HAIR/COSMEDICA, we use the best anaesthesia techniques, including the administration of local anaesthesia to the treatment area, to ensure you experience no pain throughout the procedure. We have a needle-free anaesthetic pressure-based system which makes the initial part of the surgery up to 70% less painful. Once your head is numb you will not feel pain throughout the entire procedure. Mild pain/discomfort may be experienced after the procedure. However, painkillers will be prescribed to help with this.

HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT RESULTS LAST?

The final results of the implanted hair are permanent.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF MICRO-SAPPHIRE DHI?

This method has several benefits which include:

  • Reduced risk of damage to the hair follicle during reimplantation by protecting the hair follicle on entry into the hair channel with the implanter pen (360º Protection)
  • MICRO-SAPPHIRE DHI technique allows for smaller incisions so there is less trauma to the head overall and therefore quicker recovery times
  • Slightly higher density due to the micro-sapphire tip blades being smaller than the normal traditional FUE sapphire tip blades
  • Less trauma to head (hair channels) due to the use of the implanter pen being able to implant the hair follicles in the most least invasive way possible

How We Plan Your Hair Transplant

First of all, the planning of your hair transplant is carried out to the fullest degree.

We will go through the full planning stage with you, so you are aware all the time of exactly what is happening at every stage.

There are a number of key aspects of arranging your transplant, that you need to be aware of:

First, we look at the degree of hair loss you have and then plan out the level of transplant you will need exactly by determining
the number of grafts you will personally need.

We will then discuss with you how you want the front hairline to look so that when the hair grows in, it looks natural.

The next step is to calculate the number of grafts the surgeon will need to take for the transplant. An adult male needs on average 40,000 grafts which are roughly 80,000 to 100,000 hair follicles.

How Is The Hair Transplant Surgery Carried Out?

Before your surgery, your frontal hairline and the area to be sown are drawn and planned, and the new hairline is confirmed with you before surgery begins. Next, local anesthesia is applied. the whole procedure can last between 5 to 8 hours, depending on the number of grafts transplanted. While this may sound like a long time, it can be broken up with short breaks.

Having an FUE hair transplant consists of four (4) stages :

Stage 1Collecting the graft from the donor area
THIS NEEDS FURTHER EXPLANATION TO MAKE PARRALEL WITH THE REST OF THE PAGE

Stage 2 – Counting the grafts

The grafts taken from the patient are separated and counted as triple, double and single. While this is going on, you can take a break, go and have something to eat, watch a film, whatever you want to do.

Stage 3 – Micro Slit Incision

This sounds technical but basically, this is a surgical method that is able to duplicate the alignment and distribution of hair as it occurs naturally, thereby maximizing the coverage. The angle and direction of hair growth can be precisely controlled at this stage, allowing transplantation of areas previously regarded as too difficult or unsuitable for hair transplant surgery.

Stage 4 – Graft Placement

Collected grafts are then as mentioned in stage 3, placed at the correct angle and in the proper direction for the maximum effect and growth.

Benefits of PRP Therapy

Our blood is made of two main components, red blood cells, and plasma. The plasma contains white blood cells and platelets, which are rich in growth factors. The growth factors, are used in medicine to treat a range of health issues, including arthritis, signs of aging, etc. and so when it comes to being used after a hair transplant, it helps stimulate the activity of the hair follicles and promote new hair growth.

PRP Therapy

After you have had the operation using the FUE Technique, we will then perform PRP (Platelet-rich Plasma) therapy as a supportive therapy. The reason why this is important is that PRP therapy is very effective in improving the tissues after they have been implanted. And so any damaged tissues and stem cells are stimulated to improve growth.
